"Alright! It's ready! It's time"- she told herself as she stood near the glowing red tube of magic. She pressed the code of the complicated machine, it's engines roared to life. A faint blue light eluminating from inside."Whew..Here I go." She stepped inside."Here I come sweetheart"- she said , as she pressed down the specific date into the machine mess.
" Where...am I?" , "did it work?" "Am I back in time? Right in time, I hope"- she pressed her head, as if that would help the confused brain.. "To travel through time, is no joke"
She somehow got out of the machine. Took her bag carefully out and tucked it under her shirt. Her curly hair was a mess..but she didn't care ." Now..before it's dawn..Let's see her"- she stood on her feet, still fumbling about." I know the place.. I've been there a million times "
She took off. It's almost time. She ran for a long time and finally reached the road she was searching for. The familiar, often unnoticed road that led to the house! It was unbelievably clean, the road, unlike what she remembered. She slowed down, and took her time. Walked down the road.
"Here we are" - she said. - " looks really different than what I am used to ."
" Now, where are you? " She climbed up the fence, and quietly searched for an open window. No luck.No open windows."Come on... Don't let no open windows ruin my years of plan "
She heard laughter, and stories from rooms. It was a celebration,of course. A faded light was glowing inside one room... It seemed quiet, entirely detached from the rest of the house. A lonely, miserable light glowed inside."Found you" - a sly smile crept up the corner of her mouth..
*Tck tck tck*Three faint taps on the window..loud enough for the one inside to look up and see the silhouette.
"Who's it? " A soft voice came from the inside, mixed with slight fear."Amma? Is that you? " - no answer."Pappa?" * Don't ruin it for both of us..open up please* she thought to herself. The window opened slightly. "Who is it?" She saw a 19-year-old, inside. Scared. Heavy eyes. She probably cried the whole night." Don't worry! Just listen to me... I am here to help you. You need to come with me""What?
I don't even know who you are! " " You will. In a minute. I am your daughter. I come from the future. You need to trust me and come with me, now"
" Whaa... You need to leave"
"Your name is Rinu. You love botony. You dream of being a teacher. You have 4 best friends.. I know alot more but now's not the time"
"I don't understand...What's going on?"
"You're going to be married off tomorrow! You have 2 hours to change it. Be who you want to be. Get a degree and a job. Make your own money. But only if you come with me"
She stood in the dark, speechless. The light illuminating her silhouette."Trust me, mom! You don't want to get married. You need a chance. Someone to give you a head start! I'm here for that. All you got to do, is pack your bags and come with me."
It took 6 and a half more minutes to convince her to come out. Pack her bags and take my hand. Wow..you really are pretty, MOM."
"Please stop calling me that. I don't understand what I'm doing in the middle of the night with a strange ...girl?"
"You'll see"
They sat in a bus." Where are we going?" She asked.
"Somewhere you can start over...Do what you want to"
" If you are from the future like you say; was my marriage bound to fail?" She asked, curiously.
" No. I think it was the greatest marriage I've ever seen"
" Was he a good person? "
"He was the best. He took great care of us."
"Then why are we here?" ~ she asked.
"I think you know why. All I had to do was convince you to come with me, so you can learn. You can marry any day, mom.. Sometimes, you won't get to choose the other options. I need you to do what you want. Not what others push you to do. I hope you marry Dad. But I'd love to see you thrive too...Tough choice to make, but it's worth my time" - I smiled at her.
We got off at a faraway place.. The newness of the place brought a sense of calm. The wedding must be off by now, I thought.
"This is for you. Gold.. You know future money doesn't really work in this timeline, so. I brought you some gold. Make the most out of it." I handed her the bag I tucked into my shirt.
" But.. won't you stop existing! If I don't marry your dad today? Isn't that the paradox? " She asked, still not sure what it all meant.
"Some people are worth the damn paradoxes, ma'am." I turned, back to the machine.
